Three hours of unplugging things and plugging them back in and it finally made that awful grinding noise that means it's working. First thing I scanned was a maple leaf. Second thing was my hand, which everyone says is the law.
The leaf came out better than the hand. My hand looks like something recovered from a lake. I'm keeping it anyway, once I work out how to make the file small enough that it doesn't take a full minute to load for people on dial-up. Which is most of you. I checked the counter.
Next up: scanning the stack of stickers I've hoarded since middle school, so I can make my own page dividers instead of borrowing them.
Redid the whole site over the weekend. Everything is blue now and everything glows. Moved the guestbook off the front page because people kept signing it by accident when they meant to email me.
Things I learned: nested tables are a trap, and a fixed-width layout is a promise you make to exactly one monitor. I broke that promise — this one squishes down when the window gets small.
If anything looks wrong on your screen, tell me in the guestbook and say what browser you're on. I only have the one computer to test with.

Someone told me burning CDs made tapes pointless and I've been quietly furious about it for a week. A tape is a decision. You commit to the order, you sit there in real time while it records, and when you hand it over you're handing over forty-five minutes you actually spent.
Also there's the hiss. A little bit of hiss at the start of side A tells you a human being was in the room. Nobody's nostalgic for a perfect copy.
Anyway I built a little player for this site so I could put something on it, so I suppose I'm a hypocrite with a nice interface.
